1. Happy New Year!

Things have been really fast paced around here at Down South Westies! Both our daughter and son moved during Christmas week. Our daughter and family moved from MS to GA and bought a home in our subdivision while our son and family moved from AL to PA. Christmas for our family was really different this year. To add to that, we had two litters of pups to care for and now, with Ellie's litter, we have three litters, or 13 pups. It is a time-consuming task to care for the pups and mama dogs. Times like this make me think about all those puppy mills and all those pups that are left to fend for themselves and the mama dogs that are so uncared for. We, especially Linda, spend hours with the pups. Linda spent 4 days with her sister in MS during the holidays. I took vacation time to be with the pups. I worked "24 hours" a day just caring for the pups and the mamas. I gained a new appreciation for Linda's hard work. It is definitely a "labor of love".

2. Ellie Has A New Litter!

Ellie's pups were born on Sunday, January 8. She had three boys and a girl. They are all healthy pups and are really growing. She is such a loving dog and a very loving mom. She is a little shy around strangers, but warms up quickly, especially to kids. Her pups are already booked. You can see some of Ellie's pups that are now adult dogs on our Friends Page.

3. Chloe And Gigi's Pups Go To New Homes!

Miss Chloe's pups will go to their new homes the week of January 22.

Gigi's pups will go to their new homes the weekend of January 28.

4. What We Feed Our Dogs/Pups!

Often people ask us what food we feed our Westies. We use CANIDAE All Life Stage dog food. CANIDAE is an all natural human grade food and does not contain wheat, corn, nor beef, which cause allergies in some dogs. We have fed our adult dogs CANIDAE Dog Food for a few years. We also start our pups on CANIDAE. It is hard to find and we cannot purchase it locally. We have to order 200 pounds minimum, but we feel it is superior to any food we have found. All of our pups love CANIDAE All Life Stage and we have had great success. If CANIDAE is available in your area, I would suggest you consider feeding it to your pup as well as your adult dog. By all means, do not feed a formula with wheat, corn, or beef. We place coupons in Puppy Paks for free bags of Canidae.

If you live in the Metro Atlanta area, we can sell you 40 pounds of Canidae for $35 plus tax, which is probably cheaper than any other source. We do not make a profit, this just helps us keep a fresh supply. Call for an appointment to pick up your food (770.918.5105) at our home in Conyers.

Another good food is Natural Balance, a natural food formula formulated specially for allergy-prone dogs. It contains no wheat, corn, nor beef. We use this food for treats with our dogs. They love it. We give samples in Puppy Paks. It can be purchased at PETCO.
