A
reputable breeder is one you can trust and who has high ethical
standards that are reflected in their love for the breed.
A reputable breeder is one who will answer your questions and help
you when problems arise. If you pay a big price for a
Westie pup of good quality, health and temperament, you deserve support from
the breeder.
Westie breeders listed
below have agreed to the following guidelines:

Belong to the
West Highland White Terrier Club of America, a regional
Westie club, or an all-breed club

Be involved in
showing his/her dogs in the breed ring, the obedience
ring or earthdog tests

Willing to
give references to potential buyers as well as your
vet who provides care for the pups

Be willing to
answer questions about any possible hereditary
problems...explain the various screenings for the
diseases which are most common in Westies and why you do
or do not participate in regular testing and genetic
disease registries such as GDC, OFA, CERF, etc.

Provide a
record of the dates and types of vaccinations and
worming done
-
Provide a 3
to 5 generation pedigree of the sire and bitch, and
litter registration for the buyer's registration of the
puppy with the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Pups are
placed with spay/neuter contract and limited
registration
-
Pups go to
new homes no sooner than 8 weeks and a Vet health
certificate is provided for the new owner
-
Offer a
health guarantee and contract
-
Have a
vast knowledge of the breed and be
selective in placing pups through the use of a detailed
application/screening process

Willing to
take the pup back at any age if the owner cannot provide
care
